French toast is not Spanish. But torrija it is. It’s similar but it’s very different. And it’s exactly what you had. And it’s typical in Semana Santa. Many restaurants have torrija all year around for dessert.
Ahh thank you for this comment! On the English menu that we inevitably received after the bartender quickly realized that our Spanish was not great, it was translated as "French toast (eggy bread)". But I just looked now and the actual menu has torrija. Thank you for commenting :) I will update the post!
